Mary, did you Know?

☀️Welcome to #3 of 3 posts looking at the use of essential oils during ancient days and some of the similarities that carry on today.

Mary, did you Know?
>>>>Luke 2:12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
🎄Every year during family Christmas I direct and organize a very simple play using my kids, nieces and nephews. We meet in the basement, assign roles and lines, and walk through how this year’s play will go. The other adults enjoy this quiet time upstairs and also really enjoy watching our special production when it is ready. You never know what will
happen!
🎁In the past, I brought small containers to symbolize the gifts given to baby Jesus by the three wise men but now, I own all three, gold, Frankincense essential oil (love my Frank!) & Myrrh essential oil (that word is super hard for me to spell…).
I loved learning more about myrrh in in Healing Oils of the Bible by David Stewart Ph.D.
He writes, “When Joseph and Mary received the gift of myrrh from the kings of the orient (Matthew 2:11), the wise men did not have to explain the use of the oil to Mary. She knew that the myrrh was antiseptic and should be placed on the navel of the newborn child so that there would be no infection with the sloughing of the umbilical cord. Mary also knew it would come in handy later on protecting her child from things like coughs, sore throats, thrush, ringworm and gum infections. She knew myrrh would be a good thing to have to soothe and heal the little cuts and bruises that all little boy experience in their growing up. She knew these things because all the women of her time knew about these things.
⭐️”The wise men didn’t have to explain to Mary that myrrh could heal scar tissue and remove the stretch marks of pregnancy, either. Mary would have known exactly what to do, to rub her abdomen with the oil until the stretch marks disappeared. All of the women of her time would have also known about that, too.”
🎉This year our family is gathering on New Year’s Eve to celebrate Christmas. My middle sister and her family have been in China for most of December adopting a son. We all met their family yesterday at the airport! We are all anticipating spending more time with this sweet boy and his participation in this year’s Christmas production. What precious times ahead!
❤️Love to you and yours this holiday season.
Question: How does your family celebrate the holiday season?

Daily Living with Essential Oils Then & Now!

☀️Welcome to #2 of 3 posts looking at the use of essential oils during ancient days and some of the similarities that carry on today.
Daily Living with Essential Oils Then & Now!
(Christmas is coming!)
>>>>It is wise to keep oils in your house!
Proverbs 21:20 says “Precious treasure and oils remain in the house of the wise.”
❤️Families in ancient days used fatty oils for fuel and food and used aromatic essential oils for tasks of daily living.
Most references to oils in the Bible are related to worship, ceremonies and burial preparations.
🌲Most of the time I think of people from the Bible using oils for anointing or burial purposes, but they also used oils for emotional health and prevention of disease. Hmmm… those uses, emotional health and wellness sound a lot like me, a definite “me too” moment.
We learn more about what oils were used as part of daily living in Healing Oils of the Bible by David Stewart Ph.D.
🍃”The truth is that not only were the 33 species of aromatic plants and oils identifiable from the Bible in use by the peoples of that time, there were many more. Most of the oils and fragrances commonly used for medicines and fragrances for deodorants, perfumes, and incenses around the homes and businesses were omitted from the Bible because their mention would not contribute to making their theological point. To find what other oils were in use during Biblical times, one has to rely on archeological records of the Babylonians, Sumerians, Phoenicians, Egyptians, Persians, Arabians and other cultures that surrounded and occupied the Hold Land at those times.”
☀️Priests in the Bible had a ton of responsibilities (leading worship, caring for people and also caring for temple grounds). They were also skilled apothecaries, preparing and mixing various oils and herbs for anointing, for incense and for healing, says Stewart.
In the Bible, the word anointment means literally ointment. Stewart says Biblical ointments were always composed of essential oils. “In Biblical times essential oils were often mixed in a vegetable oil base such as olive, flaxseed, walnut, sesame or almond. But vegetable oils alone were never used for anointing, writes Stewart. Precious oils always indicated “the use of essential oils such as cassia, hyssop, frankincense, spikenard, galbanum, myrrh, onycha, cinnamon and/or calamus.”
🍋CURIOUS NOTE: An interesting note Stewart shares in his book is the lack of citrus fruits, trees and oils. Where is the lemon oil? 🍋“… Citrus is of the Chinese origin and was not known in Europe and the Middle East until around the tenth century A.D. … In modern aromatherapy, citrus oils play major roles in the healing of the body, mind and soul, but such medicines were unknown to the people of the Bible.”
Question: Have you used essential oils when giving or receiving a massage? Have you had the great benefit of receiving a Raindrop Technique session?

#1 Essential Oils Across Time (Christmas is coming!)

>>>Welcome to a short, fun look at the use of essential oils during ancient days and some of the similarities that carry on today. Each day as we approach Christmas, we will offer a simple look back into history. And please note, while I love Jesus and believe he was sent as a part of God’s plan for His people whom He loves, I am not a Bible expert. 😊
#1 Essential Oils Across Time (Christmas is coming!)
>>>>People have depended on and loved their essential oils for a SUPER long time! Using essential oils is not a new thing!
🌲People of Mesopotamia were using oils, and figuring out how to distill them (crazy cool!), dating way back to 3500 B.C.! And detailed research regarding over 300 botanicals and their uses, was discovered in China dating back to 3000 B.C.
🎄These examples were
both well before mummies--the earliest oil association that made sense to me, before becoming an oil obsessed mummy myself… fair warning here I am an oil nerd! As for mummies, if you are thinking of a certain Egyptian King from 1330 B.C., you are correct, 10 points! King Tutankhamun “King Tut” made sure to bury himself with alabaster jars filled with precious essential oils necessary for his planned afterlife.
⭐️Across time and cultures, essential oils have been used in special traditions, ceremonies and for health and wellness. The first Biblical reference to healing oils (of over 500 references) is in the book of Genesis, chapter 37, verses 12-22.
This is the story of Joseph, who was thrown in a pit by his older brothers and later sold to traders passing through on their way to Egypt. Trade routes in this area were pretty amazing, bringing spices, oils and herbs from as far away as India.
The traders who took Joseph carried “spicery, balm and myrrh.” Some translations debate whether if it was true myrrh, but instead possibly balm or the oil of the Rose of Sharon. Interestingly, myrrh was often combined with other essential oils to preserve an oil’s smell and strength.
“Myrrh is like a servant to all the other oils,” writes David Stewart Ph.D. in Healing Oils of the Bible. “It is a fixative that increases the longevity of the aroma of any fragrance with which it is combined without dominating or overpowering the fragrance. Myrrh is one of those synergistic oils that enhances the qualities of any oil of which it is mixed.”
❤️That ability reminds me a little of Copaiba, one of the oils that comes in our premium starter kit. Copaiba is known as a magnifier oil, when blended with another essential oil it magnifies the effect of that oils as well, somewhat like being an oil’s true best friend or companion oil, it brings out the best of the oils properties.

Courage in the pool - getting my scuba certification!

💦This weekend last year I was in the hospital for four days with cellulitis (a skin infection).
💦This weekend this year I spent the entire weekend working on my scuba certification! Because I get to and because I’m discovering what I’m capable of.
💦And I got to study and learn from my sweet friend Casi who I’ve known for 20+ years! This was the first time I got to see her in her element teaching scuba. What a treasure!
The weekend was fun and hard and exhausting! Breezeway Bubbles Scuba LLC ran a fantastic program. I felt cared for and confident, being able to practice my skills.
I’m so thankful for the blessing of these rich experiences and friends to share them with.

Public Bathrooms...

A few weeks ago, while out in sunny San Diego, I went into a public bathroom - where it was NOT sunny. No. No. No.
I actually told a small group of people sortof nearby, who I just met, that I was going inside the bathroom in case I didn't make it back out. It was terrifying.
Everything was wet. There were burn marks along the bottom of the door. Toilet paper - ha! There was a pair of brown, ratty pants crumpled up on the floor and ... underpants! were in the sink. W**. What horror movie did I walk into?
DO not touch anything. Thank God I was wearing shoes. With the balance of a ballerina and the skills of a swimmer, I pulled off a lightning fast deck change and got out of there, shaking only a little, hoping the twitch was not permanent. I should have just changed outside, in the bright open air in front of all the scary people. Seriously.
I knew I had my pocket size Thieves waterless hand purifier in my purse - one of my little lifesavers I always have with me!!! Smells great, feels great and is safe, effective and gentle.
